What Is KnowledgeBass?

It's a digital archive of hip-hop, powered by the music and media services that we already use. Hip-hop has changed the world, and there's an endless amount of history behind that cultural change. With the explosion of video, podcasts, and social media combined with access to more music than we could have ever imagined, we're bring that content together to help everyone learn more about hip-hop.

What Makes A Good Knowledge Submission?

The gold standard for knowledge is footage of the actual artist talking about the actual song of theirs - an interview, a behind-the-scenes moment, a Tiny Desk tangent. Anything where the artist is the one telling the history. Nobody explains a lyric or a beat better than the person who came up with it. If you can't find the creator on camera, clips from reputable outlets (established music publications, verified podcasts, legit interview channels) are solid.

Clips that help unpack what a lyric or song actually means are also great candidates for knowledge. If it adds genuine understanding to the what a bar means, and it comes from somewhere trustworthy, it's a strong submission

Embeddable clips are strongly preferred. Shorter is always better than longer - we're going for those "aha" moments over full director's commentary.

All knowledge submissions are reviewed by our team, and if approved will be rewarded with Power.

What Is Power?

You can earn Power from approved knowledge submissions, from other users who liked your submission, unlocking artists/albums/songs, and more secret methods!

The Power that users have is used as influence on KnowledgeBass, such as in our Top 5 algorithms and polls.

Why Are Songs Missing From My Library?

There are a couple of likely reasons a song may not appear. First, the song may not be the right genre. KnowledgeBass is all about hip-hop/rap. Second, this site is built around music with some history behind it, so recently released songs or albums may not be included in search results yet. We're focused on tracks that have had time to develop context, commentary, and a story worth telling, rather than the newest releases.

Why Is My Favorite Artist/Album Not Available?

The best way to make sure an artist or album is available for your Top 5 or searches is to connect your streaming account and browse to a song. This creates the information in KnowledgeBass needed to add them to the archive properly, (and you'll earn Power in the process!).

You can also reach out to us via social media and let us know of an Artist or Album you'd like to be added. The process is much slower, but if it's legit we'll definitely add it.
